What do they like, and don't like?
All the wonderful things they like they find in your bed. House dust mites feed on dead skin cells (dander) of human or animal origin. Growth conditions for them are: - high ambient humidity (55%) - warm temperature (20 C°) - ample food supply (human skin cells) They are so happy that you spend so many hours with them in your bed. They are mad when you change the air in your bedroom and .... when they cannot get into your bed!

How fast they can grow in numbers?
House dust mites have amazingly rapid rate of reproduction. 40-60 eggs a female dust mite can produce during her life span (6-8 weeks). Each of them drops 20 small pellets a day which contain allergens.

How can I combat invisible army of House Dust Mites?
Intensive vacuum cleaning can significantly reduce the amount of allergen but only provides a partial solution as the living mites will again quickly replenish the allergen reservoir in the dust. Ventilation Reduce the indoor humidity below 7g/kg by ventilation proved to be sufficient to eradicate the house dust mite population. Washing Washing in hot water (above 55C) will kill the mites and can also remove allergens. Barrier methods Studies in which mites were vacuumed from the top of allergen barrier showed a reduction of mites in the order of 30-100 fold compared with those from the normal cover. Use of allergen barrier together with intensive vacuum cleaning reduce allergen levels significantly and result in improved clinical symptoms. Please refer to Healthy Bedroom.

Can I prevent House Dust Mite allergy by using AllerGuard®?
Yes. Studies on AllerGuard have successfully proved that it reduces the amount of house dust mite allergen and minimizes the risk of developing allergy. Please refer to Healthy Bedroom Shouldn't it be sufficient to air the bedding product daily?
No, but daily airing of the bedding is important in order to allow the bed to breath and thereby get rid of the humidity which has accumulated during the night. However, airing will not kill nor remove the dust mite and its allergens. It is therefore only a useful supplement to more effective precautions.
